Focus Open
Gold 2021

Gold for Rökona. The company, headquartered in Tübingen, has received the international design prize Baden-Württemberg Focus Open GOLD 2021 for its product group, “Effective”.

RÖKONA was able to win over the independent jury at this year’s Focus Open with its product group “Effective”, which focuses on the issue and implementation of sustainability and design while fulfilling the requirements of the automobile industry. The jury stated:

“This is a material development pointing in the right direction and demonstrating that composite materials are absolutely unnecessary. Here we see a link between the intelligent change of processes with the demands of contemporary design and the recycling economy. Although these textiles have been developed for the automobile industry, they should also find their way into other sectors.”

GDA „GOLD“ 2022

RÖKONA Textilwerk GmbH & Co. KG has won the “GOLD” German Design Award 2022 with its sustainable product group “RE:SPACE” for its innovative and above all sustainable technical textiles, made in Germany. The prize, awarded now for the tenth time, is issued by the “German Design Council”.

RÖKONA applied for the German Design Award with its wide-ranging „RE:SPACE“ product concept. Along with the design and application aspects, the company also focused on the issue of sustainability in its technical textile solutions. Using SEAQUAL yarns, the single-origin knitted textiles are both fully recyclable and contribute to reducing plastic waste in the world’s seas. Based on this basic material, RÖKONA can offer textile solutions for the entire mobility sector, as well as for application fields including architecture, active wear, protective textiles and composites, all completely recyclable and honoured with the German Design Award Gold 2022. Uwe Heiner, Head of Product Development at RÖKONA, commented, “We are very proud that the German Design Council jury has recognised the immense potential of our recyclable knitted technical textiles made from recycled materials, establishing a new milestone in our industry. Combined with a wide variety of optical designs and functional possibilities, we have the opportunity together with our customers to reposition technical textiles on the market.”

With „RE:SPACE“ , RÖKONA Textilwerk offers an interesting range of high-quality technical textiles that are persuasive in functional and aesthetic terms, as well as being sustainable. Recycled plastics removed from the seas are used for the fabrics, which are available in a variety of materials and finishes. This represents a complete recycling circuit, from the raw material to the final product and its reuse, which reduces the burden on the seas and the environment and preserves resources.

The “RE:Space” concept group will be exhibited at the “Museum für Angewandte Kunst” (‘Museum of Applied Art’) in Frankfurt am Main from February 11th, 2022.

Prominent
visit

RÖKONA Textilwerk GmbH in Tübingen welcomed Baden-Württemberg Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann, Tübingen’s Lord Mayor Boris Palmer and District President Klaus Tappeser for a visit this past Friday. Their visit focused on the production of the award-winning sustainable product group RE:SPACE, the RTO (regenerative thermal oxidation) facility connected to Tübingen’s district heating system and the issue of energy in general.

Last Friday, Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann, Tübingen’s Lord Mayor Boris Palmer and District President Klaus Tappeser visited RÖKONA Textilwerk GmbH to observe the production of sustainable technical textiles and the affiliated RTO, from which heat is stored in Tübingen’s municipal utilities’ district heating system. „RÖKONA is an exemplary company with a focus on the energy transition and environmentally friendly production. Together with Tübingen’s municipal utilities operations, the company makes an important contribution to a climate-friendly, sustainable heating transition,” said Minister-President Kretschmann. He summed up by adding, “Tübingen is always worth a visit.”

energy crisis

Textile industry demands perspectives

By Sibylle Michel

Textile and clothing companies are hit hard by the rise in energy prices. Südwesttextil appeals to politicians to overcome the energy crisis together – for the future of regional textile production.

The value chains of textiles are complex – through special know-how in yarn production, knitting, weaving or finishing, textiles can beautify rooms, protect our health and solve the problems of our time as a cross-sectional technology. In Baden-Württemberg, the textile value chain is more complete than in almost any other region in order to develop these solutions. However, the explosion in energy prices does not leave many of the predominantly small and medium-sized companies a minute’s rest.
